Big Boy Bed

About a month ago we decided it was time to switch Lucas to a toddler bed. After reading lots of blogs and talking to some friends about it, we finally took the leap one Sunday. Since our crib converts to a toddler bed it wasn't too difficult. Lance just had to change one side of the crib. Then just like that it is a toddler bed! Below is a few shots of Lucas enjoying the last time in his crib.

Lucas and I had picked out some cool new bedding and a night light. Since we'd had problems with him tearing his night light out of the socket in the past, I was concerned about him being able to access it while we weren't around. He was pretty excited about all these things and even the "new" bed at first.

We started off at nap time and that went pretty well. Then bedtime came around and he only got out of bed once before going to sleep and once in the middle of the night. I was pretty impressed. Then the next 2 weeks happened. They weren't so smooth. He started having problems going to sleep and wanted us to stay in the room until he did. We eventually found something that works for us. Which is reading him books, praying, and turning on his music. Then we leave the room and tell him he has to stay in bed. He still gets out of bed sometimes but he knows he has to go back to bed and stay there. I'm glad I had read to put a gate on his room because otherwise who knows what he'd do in the middle of the night if I didn't hear him wake up. It hasn't been an easy change but it sure wasn't as horrible as I had imagined it to be. Sure there are still some days when I wish I could put him in his crib and know he couldn't get out but gee I still wish he was a baby some days. He's growing up so fast!
