November Happenings

Wow, is it just me or has November been flying by? We've been keeping busy around here with all our normal activities and trying to get ready for Thanksgiving, Austin, and Christmas. There seems to be enough to do but I find that I've already been struggling with inside activities for Lucas. He's such an outside boy and I have a feeling it's going to be a long winter for him.

Remember awhile back when I mentioned how whenever Lance takes Lucas running with him, they come back with something? Well recently they came back with heads of corn. I know you are probably thinking that they were for me to decorate with, right? Wrong. They were used to be shucked and then played with all over our house. They started out as only an outside thing but boy can this corn keep a boys attention. Once we got a little smarter we started making him play with it inside our little pool. This was a great idea but the corn still finds it's way out. Plus, there is no way all his farm stuff will fit in there with him and the corn. So yes, we have corn everywhere in our house.

Lucas had his first ear infection of the season a few weeks ago. I got a little cold with him and then Lance followed by really getting it. You know my husband is sick when he is home from work and goes to the doctor without me nagging him. He was home for a day and a half. To make things a little interesting, he lost his voice. He still has somewhat of a cold but can at least function like a human again.

We had our first snow the other week and the weekend before that we decide to put up our Christmas lights. No, we are not turning them on until after Thanksgiving but they are up and ready. Lance won't have to be on the roof in the freezing cold, snow, and ice.

Lucas has been really into finger painting lately. One afternoon we made several different turkeys and trees with his hand prints. He LOVES when I trace his hand but loves using the paint even more. He used a little sponge brush and a q-tip. They turned out pretty cute so we mailed them off to Kansas. After doing this project he will now finish painting, coloring, or drawing something and say "next". He simply thinks he needs to make one for each person now.

As some of you know, since we moved I've been working on updating Lucas' room. Truth is, I haven't really got very far but I was thrilled that this shelf is finally finished! My dad and Lance started working on this shelf awhile back and I've been excited about it ever since. It fits perfectly where Lucas' rocking chair used to be. I was a little hesitant in taking the chair out of his room but I really never used it in there anymore and I truthfully haven't missed it. We read books in his big boy bed and all is right with the world. Speaking of bed time. He's been doing pretty good going to sleep. Don't get me wrong, he still gets out of bed sometimes but it's nothing like before. Plus, Lance has also been successfully putting him to sleep! Which makes me extremely happy and Lance extremely pleased with himself.
